GeoNexa is a specialist GeoAI consultancy combining spatial data science, machine learning and cloud-native systems. We turn complex location data into practical models, dashboards and decision tools.

Our four co-founders combine academic, technical and commercial expertise across GIS, AI, urban systems, transport, property, security and environmental analysis.

Managing Director

Dr Naru Shiode

Over the last 30 years, Naru has worked on developing and applying methods of spatial data science, spatial statistics and geoAI to solve challenges in the urban environment with focus on housing, security, transport, health, and environment and pollution.

Naru has strong experience in leading projects and collaborating with government and industry partners, including the Office for National Statistics, London Mayor’s Office and Jaguar Land Rover.

Naru holds degrees in Urban Engineering from the University of Tokyo and a PhD in Built Environment from University College London. He currently also serves as Associate Professor in Human Geography and GIS at Kingston University.

Technology Director

Hannes Neethling

Hannes has a background in computer science and geographic information systems. His experience includes more than 20 years of data systems analysis and software engineering in the fields of fintech, renewable energy, public services and utilities.

He specialises in the development and integration of cloud native artificial intelligence systems. His interests include urban development, criminology, transportation systems, logistics and property management.

Hannes holds the following academic qualifications: MA (Geography); MSc (Computer science); PGCert (Artificial Intelligence)

Research Director

Dr Shino Shiode

Shino has over 20 years of experience in researching geographic data science.

Her expertise lies with the development of next-generation statistical and computational geospatial methods for tackling natural and manmade issues in the urban environment with increased precision and performance over the existing methods.

Shino has been involved in a number of international collaborations in the domains of security, urban, environment and public health.

She holds PhD in Engineering from the University of Tokyo, and PhD in
Geography from University of Cambridge.

Commercial Director

Michael Hatton

Michael is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has over 25 years’ experience of international marketing. He has led over a dozen campaigns that have been awarded for the use of data in personalization.

He has managed large systems development and integration projects, including extensive use of automation. Previous clients include multiple Fortune 500 companies.
